Why I Love Books
First, I would like to thank The Book Bratz and Michelle for letting me take part in the Summer Blog Promo Tour. It’s going to be a lot of fun and I hope all of you follow along and join everyone each week.
Now, when Michelle asked me to write a guest post about how I fell in love with books, I thought, “Oh, that will be easy. There are so many things I could talk about!” But as I sat down to write it, I realized that…well, there are so many things I could talk about…so maybe it isn’t as easy as I thought. I could literally write a book about my love affair with books. But you all probably don’t have time to read my novel so how about I just give you few reasons why I love books.
– Every book is a new adventure.
I learned at an early age that reading a book is like traveling to a new world or place without ever leaving the comfort of your own home or wherever you choose to read. One day you may be fighting dragons in the Middle Ages and the next be scavenging for food after the end of the world. With books you can go anywhere.
– You can learn so much from books.
Whether it is fiction or non-fiction, you can learn a lot about a subject, location, culture, person, etc. from reading a book. A book might teach you something you might not have ever learned had you never decided to pick it up and read it. It can even lead you to look up and research a topic further after you finish reading the book.
– There are characters you can relate to and can learn from.
I really enjoy “meeting” new characters. Sometimes I see myself reflected in these characters…either past me or present me or even the me I wish I could be. Sometimes I discover characters that remind me of people I know or people I wish I knew. And as with my previous point, you can often learn a lot from various characters and their experiences…especially when you read about characters whose life experiences are different from yours.
– Books are the ultimate entertainment.
There are so many books to choose from. Electricity is not required. And you can read for free if you have a library card. You can go anywhere, be anyone, experience anything, all without leaving the comfort of your reading spot.
– There’s pretty much a book for everyone.
There are so many genres to choose from…no matter what your interest or mood, you can pretty much find a book to fit it. Do you want a happy ending? There’s a book for that. Want to solve a crime? There’s a book for that. Need to research a topic? There’s a book for that. Want to be cowboy? There’s a book for that. And you if you can’t find the book, write it…the possibilities are endless.
– Books bring people together.
Through discussions, book clubs, Twitter, blogs, reviews, conventions, social media, etc. books bring bookish people together and help them bond. Just look at us now. If not for books, many of us never would have “met.” Books and discussion of books allow us to find our fellow book nerds and realize we are not alone…that there are other people out there who love reading just as much as we do…whether it is the author of the book or a fellow reader. When you share your thoughts and feelings about books, you can meet and make friends all over the world…you feel like someone out there understands you.
Well, I better stop now or I’ll just keep going….and no one wants that. Once again, thank you to Michelle for letting me ramble on here on her blog. I hope you all will check mine out. I am still a newbie, but I am learning and would love it if you’d stop by.
Keep reading and having adventures!
