Welcome to week four of the Summer Blog Promo Tour. This week I have Nicole and Sophia from Quality Fan Girls as my guests. You can click on either of their names to find out more about them. I will be the guest on their blog this week so be sure to visit. I will be talking about Why Books Are So Important To Me. I hope you will check it out. Without further ado, here is Nicole and Sophia…
We are super excited to be on Michelle’s blog to talk everything fangirl related! We call ourselves Quality fangirls for a reason… we are such fangirls! So today we’ll give you some insight on what we think makes a quality fangirl and how to properly fangirl. We hope you’ll take our advice!
What makes a quality fangirl?
Be Your Own Fangirl!
The most important thing to do to be a quality fangirl (of all gender spectrums) …..wait for it……IS TO SIMPLY FANGIRL! Pretty easy right? The makeup of any quality fangirl is really just loving what you love!
There is no one way to fangirl I know we both agree on this, we have had multiple conversations about it. We all have our insecurities. Am I really a fangirl of this fandom? Am I really that big of a fan to call myself a fangirl? There are other people who are so dedicated to the fandom and I’m not, so am I really a fangirl? The answer is always, YESSSS!
No one can tell you how to fangirl. If you love something enough to call yourself a fan? Then hell yeah, go for it and don’t let anyone stop you! Don’t worry about the snobbish fans who always say, “Oh, but you’re not enough of a fan to call yourself a fangirl/boy.” FORGET ABOUT THEM! Chances are everyone else is feeling the same way, so don’t worry about those who try to diminish your love of whatever book, movie, show, video game, etc that you’re into!
A quiet fangirl is just as valid as one that has their room decked out in fandom merch. We talk about this all the time since Sophia feels the same way! Even if you don’t read a lot, that doesn’t stop you from being a reader and loving books! This goes for anything else! So back to the original question, proper ways to fangirl. There are none! Whether it’s through writing fanfiction, buying the latest merch, making fanart, or just plain old spreading the love of the fandom with your friends. You do you, and fangirl/boy however you want!
Things Not to Do
A very important part of being a quality fangirl is not hating on other people. It’s sad to see hate within and outside of a fandom. We should all get along. Your OTP is my NOTP, that’s okay! We’re all entitled to our own opinions. Never hate on other people for liking what they like, it’s just not nice. This goes for everything, casting, ships, endings, ect. We’re all going to feel our feels in different ways, just remember to hold each other when the tears comes out.
Don’t steal art! This is a big one and I know it can happen by accident, but make sure to never repost people’s art without permission AND DON’T FORGET TO CREDIT THEM. Just basically don’t take anything from anyone and if you wanted to do a spin off or someone’s idea make sure you talk to the original artist first.
Pros of Being a Fangirl, I Meannn They’re All Pros
A really great thing about being a fangirl is getting to fangirl with other people. I know it can be scary to talk to strangers, but chances are they’re as nervous as you. Just go for it! You never know what new best friend or lover 😉 is waiting around the corner.
Fangirling opens up so many windows too. New people, finding out about things, going to events. All of these things are just new opportunities and adventures to be had, including possible career options. Tons of people have found jobs via fangirling. You just never know where your passions are going to take you.
The number one best thing about being a fangirl is all the happiness it brings you. There is really no better feeling than being surrounded by people who love what you love. At our first Comic Con we were so overwhelmed by the feeling it brought us. Seeing everyone being happy just made us happier to be there. The feeling of new content from our favorite fandom is indescribable. I think we can all recount a moment when something happen in our favorite fandom that literally made us jump for joy. That crazy moment when a writer, actor, blogger ect responds to your tweet! Or just that first moment when you come across something that you know is going to change your life. That’s the ultimate feeling and in our opinion the most important part of being a quality fangirl.
