Synopsis:
Mia Lassiter is thrilled to finally put her artistic skills to use working for her aunt’s interior design shop in her hometown of East Beach. While renovating an old mansion overlooking stunning Lake Haven, she encounters a scruffy but attractive man named Brennan—the owner’s son. She doesn’t realize this sexy recluse is actually Everett Alden, the world-famous rock star in hiding who’s nursing his own artistic and personal crises.
As their personalities clash, tension simmers between the struggling artist and jaded musician, and their time spent alone together in the gorgeous old house only serves to turn up the heat. Soon, Mia and Brennan’s creative passions boil over to inspire passions of another kind…
But reality comes crashing in when Mia’s celeb-obsessed cousin discovers Brennan’s true identity—and reveals it to the world. As paparazzi swarm the mansion, Brennan is thrust back into his rock star lifestyle. Will Mia lose her soul mate just when she’s finally found him? Can their love survive the glaring spotlight?
My Review:
When I picked this book up, it had been a long time since I read a romance book. I used to read them all the time but they were all starting to seem the same, getting a little predictable, or had to many romance or sex scenes that were just too over the top. I am so glad I gave this contemporary romance a try. My romance reading slump has now ended thanks to this book! I am ready to pick up another one soon.
I loved this story so much! It was full of art and music I am an artsy type person who loves art, music, and singing so this book was perfection to me! It was full of romance, it was funny, and it had a great story line that was easy to follow. It grabbed my attention from page one, held on tight, and didn’t let me go. I EASILY could have read this book in one sitting if I hadn’t had stuff to do. I DID read it in one day though.
I received an eARC copy of this book as part of Julia London’s review crew. Let me just say that having an e-copy is simply not enough. I want a physical copy of this book sitting on my shelves to read over and over.
This novel was more than just a contemporary romance story. It was about finding yourself, being happy, and not giving up on dreams. There was also an undertone of bullying to the story. It was about changing, and growing up. Loss, love. This novel simply touched so many points in life. It was simply fantastic.
The characters were so real, believable, and relatable.( SHOCKER!!!! They actually had bodily functions and used the bathrooms, ate food, slept! Just like humans!) This just makes them so much more believable and relatable! I felt like I was reading about a neighbor, friend, or someone I went to school with. It was like getting a sneak-peak into someone’s life. The writing was superb! Easy to follow, and the words just flowed across the pages with ease. I loved that the characters weren’t always serious and that they had a sense of humor. Mia was original, quirky, and unique. She danced to the beat of her own drum and I simply loved that about her. I fell in love with Brennan. I don’t normally get a crush on fictional characters, but this was one guy I couldn’t help to fall in love with. I am going to be in extreme anticipation while waiting for the next novel in this series to come out!
I simply can’t say enough about this read, however, I don’t want to say too much. I don’t believe in spoilers. I want everyone to be able to fully enjoy this one without giving everything away. This book would go perfectly with a glass ( maybe two or three) of wine and a Friday or Saturday night. I want to leave you with my favorite line from the book:
-What we have is really all there is in life. The rest of the world can go to hell as long as I have you. (Brennan to Mia)
Come on! How could you not fall in love with Brennan!
