The people of Nelebek live in fear of persecution from the evil Morlet, who reigns with a dark and destructive magic. The kingdom’s only hope lies with the Order of the Krigers—twelve warriors with mysterious powers linked to magical weapons.
For over a century, Morlet has been annihilating the Order, picking them off one by one. Eleven Krigers have been hunted down, tortured, and imprisoned in his dungeon. Now, only one remains.
Sixteen-year-old Kaia survives by keeping her head down and minding her own business. But when she finds herself in the middle of a public execution where the mysterious Morlet is in attendance, an odd compulsion she can’t resist comes over her.
Kaia looks into Morlet’s eyes.
Soon, an ancient power awakens and Kaia can no more blend into the scenery. Will she heed the call of the Krigers or will Morlet’s dark magic destroy the last of the Order?
OH MY GOSH!!! I can’t even begin to explain how much I love this book! This is the first book I have ever read by Jennifer Anne Davis and it will surely not be my last!
Rise grabbed me from the very beginning and held on tightly. The first night I started reading this book I could not put it down. I wound up staying up and reading this until the wee hours of the morning. The sun came up and it took everything in me to put this book down so I could get some sleep. When I woke up all I wanted to do was pick this book back up and keep reading, but alas, Adulting called and I had to get things done first. If I would have been able to I would have devoured this book in one sitting. You have been forewarned.
This story had it all! It is one of those books that will give you all the feels! It has all the elements that make a book enjoyable. Action, and romance in abundance!
Loved the original names for all these characters in the book! I also feel deeply in love with these characters. Kaia is a girl who comes from a humble background. She has always had to work for the little that she has. she lives with her sick father and takes care of hin. She is a littlle bit innocent and a bit awkward and has never been in love. Now she pretty much has three guys vying for her attention. I think it’s pretty safe to say that she has feelings for two of them. I think I might have feelings for all three of them. *Wink, wink. Anders is a take control kind of guy. He is a bit mysterious and at times a little bit bossy. Vidar is not afraid to say what he is thinking and does what has to be done. Morlet is a dark, lost soul who is struggling to be kind. Kaia is a femaile surrounded by to much testosterone. Lol. She has a lot resting on her shoulders. She has to deal with all of these guys while learning to wiled her powers and wondering if she can save the world.
Little did Kaia know that one trip to get her Father some medicine would completely change her life. This is where the book really picks up and got very impossible to put down. This story just got better and better the further into it I got. There was never a dull moment. I was completely enveloped in this world. The world building was on point. It was so easy to escape into the pages of this book. The writing was spectacular! It was so easy to follow and I never for a second felt lost or didn’t understand what was going on.
There were twists and turns throughouth the whole story keeping it gripping and exciting. Every time I thought it couldn’t get any better it did. This is for sure going to be one of those series that I am going to want for my bookshelves so I can re-read them later. I am so excited for the next book and CAN’T wait until it comes out. I did not want this book to end. Every second of it was enjoyable.
My Favorite Quote from the Book:
Fear- although real and valid- can only hold you back. Take all your fears and insecurities and lock them away. Focus on your strengths. You can, and you will, do this. All you have to do is believe. -Words of wisdon imparted from Kaia’s Father.
Let me know below if you plan on reading this. You will be in for a real treat! I would love to hear what you think after you read it. Let’s banter!
