The Enertia Trials #1 & 2
Genres: Dystopian, New Adult
Genres: Dystopian, New Adult
Synopsis for Afterimage:
Reggie’s dreams . . .
aren’t dreams.
Visions of the future flood her mind like shards of broken puzzles. Caged in her cell, every morning begins the same. She’s drugged, tortured, and images are torn from her memory by Public One.
Until the morning everything changes. The vision is different. The future’s never been about her, and now she knows they’re coming for her:
Nomads.
How will she convince them to keep her alive when Nate, their leader, doesn’t like or even trust her? To him, she’s a science experiment. A machine.
When Public One will do anything to keep her, Reggie must make a decision: remain a slave to her past, or risk her future to venture into a world more terrifying than she’s ever known.
My Review for Afterimage:
Wow! This book hooked me from the first page with its brilliant and intriguing beginning. What really won me over though, was the descriptive writing. Such vivid detail and everything came to life within the pages. The writing flowed so well. I loved the chapter length. It was perfect! The chapters alternated from different characters points of view. It was fantastic! It was easy to know who was who in each chapter since they were titled by character.
The characters were all unique and had a voice of their own. I fell in love with Liam’s wit and humor. Nathan was easy to love. Reggie was a strong female character who knew how to take a lot of pain.
I read this book in one day. It was not hard to do. I didn’t want to put it down for anything. It was one of the most interesting books I have read in along time. A refreshing new idea for a dystopian. Finally a book that focused on telling a story instead of a ton of making out and sex. There was romance and love in this story but it wasn’t overdone. I didn’t miss the smuttiness one bit.
Oh my, my, my, the ending! It had me hooked! I was so ready for the next book! I didn’t even take a break. I immediately dove right into the next one. I just couldn’t wait to see what happened next.
Fans of The Testing, Hunger Games, or All These Things I’ve Done will really love this series. If you don’t pick up this book you are really missing out on an exciting read!
Synopsis for Encender:
They say you feel cold when you die.
The people I’ve killed would beg to differ.
For twenty-something Ransley, the adopted daughter of famed street fighter Estevan Benitez, fighting is all she knows. One hidden detail separates her from the endless string of her pathetic opponents: she can craft and influence heat and fire.
When she’s pitted against the strongest fighters at the infamous Argolla, Ransley faces something she never expected:
A man like her.
Roydon can duplicate himself. When the two collide in the ring, a chain of deals turns Roydon over to Public Four and he’s taken away to undergo the disturbing process of the Nexis. What it is, or what it does, no one outside of The Public knows.
Driven by guilt and a desire to release the only person she’s ever met who’s like her, Ransley isn’t about to leave him for dead—not when he might hold the answers to her missing past. Now she must trust a pair of strangers: a former military man out to collapse the system, and a woman whose premonitions could tear them all apart.
My Review for Encender:
Insanity! Round of applause for this second book! I didn’t think I could fall any more in love with this series or these characters, I was completely wrong. More excitement and adventure with new characters introduced. Stories intertwine with old characters and it was just spectacular. Everything I loved in the first book was all here but way more to love in the second book.
We are introduced to a kick-ass female named Ransley. She embodies a strong, confident woman. She is not afraid of anything and will do whatever she needs to do to survive. She knows exactly what she wants and goes after it with gusto. I wish I could be as brave and confident as her. Ransley just might be my new favorite female protagonist.
This book brings more power and special gifts to the story. It brought more interesting twists and turns. It blew the first book out of the water.
I am highly anticipating the third book more than any other book I have anticipated in years. I can’t wait to see where the next story goes. It is all perfectly set up for another masterpiece. This author knows what she is doing. There are so many ways this story can grow and go on. Plenty more excitement to come and I don’t want to wait! I really, really, really need the next book now! I am hooked and addicted to this story and characters.
If you loved the show Heroes, you are going to love this book!
Don’t miss out on this series. It’s too good to pass up.

AUTHOR BIO:
J. Kowallis, the only girl of four children, grew up in northern Utah with a head full of wild stories (most often unreal). At the age of 9, she wrote her first poem, a dedication to E.B. White’s Charlotte’s Web. It was so intriguing, her third grade teacher requested to keep the original. Between living in various fictional worlds, and spending time on her studies, she managed to graduate from Weber State University’s creative writing program. She now lives in Utah with her Mini Schnauzer, Etta, and spends most of her time still bouncing between this world and the fantastical while enjoying delectable über-dark chocolate and lavender baths. She enjoys dreaming about, flying to, and writing about distant lands (real or unreal).
