A Tangled Web by M. L. Sparrow
I received an ARC of the novella A Tangled Web by M. L. Sparrow in return for an honest review. This YA coming of age novella based in Japan was released on February 1, 2017.
Taiyo is a normal high-school girl living with her Grandmother in Sendai. She goes to school, partakes in club activities and hangs out with her two best friends, twin brothers Ryuu and Kairi. However, her perfect world is shattered when she begins dating Kairi but quickly discovers she’s already in love with Ryuu.
A tangled web of lies surrounds the pair, but everything is suddenly knocked into perspective on March 11th when they are caught up in a natural disaster that devastates the country and robs thousands of their homes, their possessions and their lives…
I breezed through this story very quickly. It was a sweet but sorrowful story of young love and tragedy. I loved reading of another culture and that country. The story was easy to follow and held my attention the entire way through. The characters were real and down to earth.
It is a story of friendship and love that turns into a story of unconditional love. It made me think of what really matters most in this world. Family and love. It was a sweet story that ended too fast. I wanted to keep reading about these characters and get to know them more.
This novella did a great job of packing in a decent story in such a short amount of pages. It didn’t seem forced and the story floated along effortlessly.
I haven’t read too many novellas. I am more of a long story type of reader. I guess if it seems too fast and you want more then that’s how to tell that this novella was a good one. The characters were interesting. I loved them all. The descriptive writing was well done.
If you are looking for a sweet, clean short story to pass the time I highly recommend giving this one a read. This story is appropriate for all ages. It was a clean read.
